Harold Eugene Brown, Sr, age 80, passed away at home, Thursday, October 3, 2019. Harold was born April 26, 1939 in Arden, Arkansas to Ted and Matilda (Bennett) Brown. Harold graduated from Ashdown High School in Ashdown, AR.
Harold married Sue Tarpley on April 29, 1960 in Marshall, Texas. Their son, Gene Brown, was born in August, 1961. They lived in Shreveport, LA for 6 years where he was employed by Southwestern Drug Company, who then transferred them to Dallas, TX. They made Irving, TX their home until Harold retired from the United States Postal Service, in 2001.
Harold and Sue retired to Whitney, TX where Harold made many golf buddies. Harold was the best golfing companion. He was always encouraging others with their golf game. To Harold, golf was always relaxation and enjoyment with friends. Harold and Sue moved to Central Texas in 2010 to be closer to their two granddaughters, son, and daughter-in-law.
Harold enjoyed reconnecting with extended family and friends at yearly Ashdown Alumni Association functions. He had the most friendly personality; friend to many, stranger to none.
He was always present with a helping hand, expecting nothing in return. Harold enjoyed his time helping take care of the RV parks, meeting and visiting with the residents of the park, where he made many friends. Harold loved his family deeply and loved time spent with his two granddaughters.
To quote a couple of his friends, “He was always smiling and helpful to anyone who needed help”, “He was one of the good guys, always a smile, always interested in others.”
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Matilda Brown and three brothers, Tony, Manny, and Billy Ray “Cotton” Brown. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Sue Brown of Lake Buchanan, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Debra Brown of Round Rock, Texas; granddaughters, Bennett Suzanne Brown and Carolina Belle Brown; brothers, Robbie Brown and Danny Brown; and sister, Diane McLarty.
A Memorial Celebration will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 270 Main Street, Ashdown, Arkansas 71822. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
“Two smiling eyes are sleeping, two hardworking hands were put to rest! God broke our hearts to prove to us that He only takes the best.”
