She was born in Warren, Ohio to Harold Spencer Colbrunn and Ruby Colbrunn Barr. After graduating from High School she moved to California where she met her husband of 65 years, Robert Z. Johnson, Jr. They moved to Wilmington in 1970 and raised their children.
She was employed at several manufacturing plants; Singer, Kaiser and Siemens before retiring and working as a cashier at Food Folk in Castle Hayne until she was unable work anymore. She was a member of Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church for many years. She loved singing in the choir and volunteering in the church wherever she was needed. She was an avid bowler and Bowling Association Officer and participated in National Tournaments with her teams. Gladys loved reading, crocheting, doing word puzzles and sewing. She was always on the go and stayed busy working on something new and creative. She also loved being with her family as often as possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harry Colbrunn and sister Olive Sublette, both of Arizona.
She is survived by her two sisters: Jean Logue (California) and Ruth Tupper (Arizona), her husband Robert Z. Johnson Jr., and four children: Ann Mason (Edward) of Wilmington, Joanne Stephens (Eddie) of Leland, Robert B. Johnson (Becky) of Jackson Springs, and Nancy Teague (Derek) of Gastonia. Her grandchildren include: TSgt Sally Mason (USAF), Bill Mason, Scott Carpenter, Eric, Matthew and Benjamin Stephens, Zachary, Jeffrey, Janie, Katie and Anna Johnson, Glenn, Jon and Nathan Katen, SPC Beth Teague (Army), Ashleigh Teague and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cypress Pointe Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care of our mother during her years of declining health.
