Elizabeth Ann Waletzko died on October 2, 2019. She was 100 years old. Elizabeth was born on November 19, 1918 in Minneapolis, MN to Kasper and Catherine (Jeziorski) Cyrus. At the age of 12, she moved with her parents to Sturgeon Lake, MN, in 1931, on a farm. When she was 18, her dad passed away, so it was just her mother and her taking care of the farm work. Then in 1940, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Leo Waletzko at St. Isidore’s Catholic Church in Sturgeon Lake, MN by Fr. T. Meger. They farmed in Sturgeon Lake are for a few years, then they moved with their family to a farm in Moose Lake, MN in 1957. They farmed there for a few years. With Leo being in poor health, they bought a 10 acre hobby farm north of Moose Lake, MN and settled down. Elizabeth took up different places to work to earn some money. The places she worked were Moose Lake Coffee Shop, run by Nell Lachapelle, Bob Renstrom’s Bakery, Walt Bogenholm Tile Plant, Gil Begenholm’s Motel, Dr. Thomas Moe’s Clinic, and helping with the chores on the hobby farm. In 1980, Elizabeth sold the hobby farm in Moose Lake, MN and moved to Pine City, MN and bought a house on 10th Street and lived there for eight years. She sold her house and moved into an apartment, Hillside Court, in Pine City, MN and lived there for 26 years.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; parents, Kasper and Catherine Cyrus; three sisters, Sr. Alexus, Sophie Cyrus, and Katie Surek; and two brothers, Walter Cyrus and Joseph Cyrus.
Elizabeth is survived by one daughter, Kathleen (Gary) Price of Crystal, MN; four sons, Jerry (Donna) Waletzko of Pine City, MN, Donald (Martha) Waletzko of Zumbro Falls, MN, Leonard (Rhonda) Waletzko of Pine City, MN, and Michael (Stacey) Waletzko of Brownton, MN; eight grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and special friend, Nancy Gilbertson.
Service of Remembrance will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Kapala Glodek Malone Funeral Home, 7800 Bass Lake Rd, New Hope, with visitation beginning at 10am. Burial at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake, MN.
