He was born in Crandall, Texas to Cornelius F. Grubbs and Nora E. Grubbs. He was working as a milkman in Houston, Texas when he heard the news of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He immediately quit his job and enlisted in the U. S. Army. It was his second enlistment, he had been honorably discharged 3 years prior. He served in both the North African and European theaters and was decorated for his service. After leaving the army in 1945, he moved to Dallas where he opened Grubbs Bros. Poultry and Eggs with two of his brothers Don Mike and Nolan and ran the company until he retired in 1988.
He was very active in the Knights of Columbus, serving until just a few years ago as a member of the Color Corps.
Ernest, or Logan, as he was known by many, has one surviving sibling, his brother Nolan.
He is also survived by his wife of 78 years, Mary Catherine Grubbs, daughter-in-law Evelyn Grubbs. daughter Nora C. Grubbs, sons, Dr. Donald W. Grubbs and John R. Grubbs and their spouses Bruce Jean, Tina Grubbs, and Alisha Grubbs.
He had 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 4 step grandchildren.
Ernest was predeceased by his eldest son Ernest and second eldest son Ronald, as well as 14 siblings.
He was a diehard Texas Rangers and Cowboys fan and was over the moon when the Cowboys presented him with a personalized football jersey at the Tampa Bay game in 2017.
A visitation for Ernest will be held Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Hill Main Mausoleum North Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 12:00 PM with mass of christian burial to follow at Calvary Hill Main Mausolem North Chapel. A committal will be Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Calvary Hill Cemetery. A reception will be Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home in the Reception Room.
