Shirley Hampton ODell of Knoxville TN passed away peacefully on the 6th of October 2019 at Fort Sanders NHC at the age of 80. Shirley was born in Nashville TN and spent most of her young adult life in Nolensville and was a member of Nolensville United Methodist Church. She was raised in a home with multi generations where her and her brothers primary care giver was their great Aunt Blackie and she was probably the most influential person in her young life. She learned so much from her but above all else she showed her love, kindness and sacrifice. Aunt Blackie never married but helped raise two generations of children and bore none.
She loved Country and Gospel music and had a beautiful voice. She loved cooking for others, making quilts and helping others in any way she could. She was a wonderful seamstress and sewing was her favorite past time. Her greatest gift was she really LOVED everyone and found something to love in everyone she met. If you were in her life then she has brought you joy and kindness in some way. Her Legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone that loved her. We mourn her loss but rejoice that she is new again and with our Heavenly Father. She is preceded in death by her beloved great Aunt Blackie, Father-John Aubrey Hampton, Mother-Jess Neal, Brother-Thomas Hampton, Son-Jack Hilton Bodiford, Granddaughter-Jennifer Laugherty. Survived by one sister, Sherry Friendly , Shirley had two daughters, Teresa (Dave) Zimprich and Mickey (Tommy) Hancock and her beloved grandchildren Robert Zimprich, Amanda (David) MacDonald, Andrew (Ashley) Hancock, Austin (Alex) Hancock, Jonathon White, Angel Martin and Briana Bodiford. She is also leaving behind 11 precious great-grandchildren and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank many special caregivers that continued to care for her. Her life was better because of all of them and the time that they spent with her was priceless. Also thank you to NHC and staff who became like family members to all of us.
We will have a celebration of life on Sunday, October 27 2019 at Clapps Chapel United Methodist Church @7420 Clapps Chapel Rd. Corryton TN. 37721 Receiving friends 3:00-4:00. Service at 4:00 officiated by Rev. Dr. Joshua Felton
