BOWES, Evelyn Mae - age 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 6th in Halifax. Born in Dartmouth and grew up on Caledonia Road for over 40 years, Evelyn married young and raised her family in Westphal where she will be remembered for her dedication to community service supporting the children’s burn unit for many years as a volunteer. Later in life, Evelyn moved to the South Shore for over 30 years and was a loyal employee of Gow’s Home Hardware in Bridgewater, where she left a lasting legacy through her work ethic and in particular her skill and devotion to creating annual Christmas displays that drew crowds to the store. While not a musician in her own right, Evelyn loved music and loved to sing. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Byron and Marjorie (Baker) Bowes and her sister Barbara (John) Campbell. Evelyn is survived by her brother, Douglas Bowes, brother in-law John Campbell, and two children, Steven (Terry Harper) Vidito and Christine (Mike) Myette. She will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity as “Grammy Ev” to her grandchildren Murray (Tara) Vidito and Olivia and Geoffrey Myette and as “Aunt Evelyn” to her nieces and nephews. It was Evelyn’s wish to be cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10am on Saturday, October 12, in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home in Dartmouth. Donations in Evelyn’s remembrance are requested to be sent to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery.
