It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of our father yesterday afternoon. For those of you that never knew our dad we want to talk about what an amazing person he was. Our father was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey to Armenian parents at a time when being Armenian in Turkey was a difficult place to be. He lived there until he was in his early 20s before leaving Istanbul for Paris, France never to return. He spent a year in Paris before moving on to Rio for the next year of his life and eventually landed in America where he made his home. In each of the places that our father lived he learned the language of the country he was in and by the time he was in his late 20s he was fluent in five languages. He was hired as an interpreter for a major airline of the time before becoming a successful stock and commodities broker on Wall Street for many years.
When he met and married our mom he said that he had married his American movie star because he thought she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and he never let anybody forget it. He loved his family with everything he had in him and he made us laugh every single day. He was hysterically funny and generous to a fault. He would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it and then ask what else he could do for you. Every phone conversation ended with an I love you and he will be missed more than we can ever say or express. He’s with our mom now. We love you dad. He is survived by his daughters Marina Mulholland and Alexandra Capparelli and their families including Tony Mulholland, Kassandra Mulholland, Pasquale Capparelli, Dena Capparelli and Julia Capparelli. He is also survived by his brother Arman Giritlian and his sisters-in-law Janet Giritlian and Alice Giritlian and all of his nieces and nephews. Our beautiful mom, Dena, passed away last year.
