EASTHAM/FRAMINGHAM – Rosarie Anne Ducey, née Edwards, age 92, of Charlton, Eastham and Framingham, MA died peacefully on October 8, 2019, at the Overlook Community in Charlton, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Milford, MA she was the eldest child of the late Michael R. and Anna M. Edwards (Ball). Her career began at St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing, Worcester MA when she joined the United States Cadet Nurse Corps in 1944 to support the war efforts. Upon completing her training and becoming a registered nurse (RN) in 1947, she went to work at the Veterans Hospital in New York City.
Rosarie returned to Milford, attended Boston College and graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduating, Rosarie resided in Framingham, MA for approximately 50 years, and was a member of the nursing staff at Framingham Union Hospital for many years. Her later career years were spent bringing her valuable experience to the classroom at Newton-Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing and Lasell College where she was a clinical instructor for the nursing program until she retired. After retiring from teaching she specialized in elder care at Bethany Health Care Center until moving to Eastham MA in 1997.
During retirement, Rosarie remained active in the community and spent countless hours volunteering her services at St. Joan of Arc’s Thrift Shop in Orleans for many years.
Rosarie was married to the late James J. Ducey, Jr. of Framingham/Eastham for 63 years and is survived by her children Patricia Ducey of Alexandria VA; Kathleen Garvey, née Ducey, and her husband Mark of Farmington CT; Jason Ducey and his wife Georgette of Southbridge MA; David Ducey and his wife Kathryn of Whitinsville MA; and her daughter-in-law, Laurie Ducey of Georgetown TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren Marnie Benney; Kate Finn, née Garvey, (Ed), Sean Garvey (Alison), Megan Rodriguez, née Garvey, (Robert), and Anna Garvey; Michael, Nicholas, Erin, Patrick, Delaney, and Timothy Ducey, and four great grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by son, James M. Ducey, and her two siblings - sister Janice Shea (Edwards), and brother Raphael Edwards.
