Friberg, Rita Lynne Hogsett, age 70, passed away on Oct 18, 2019 in Pueblo, CO. Born in Lafayette, IN on March 11, 1949 to Duane Hogsett and Linda (Cassini) Hogsett, she grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Bishop Kelley High in Tulsa. She subsequently earned degrees in Home Economics from Purdue University and Textiles and Fashion Merchandising from Colorado State University.
Rita taught at Pueblo Community College for almost twenty years, where she loved interacting with her students as well as promoting small business ventures. Prior to moving to Pueblo and joining PCC, she owned a retail business called the “Colorado Peddler” which sold items made in Colorado.
Rita was preceded in death by her father, Duane, her mother, Linda, and her sister, Marie Augustyniak Cassini.
She is survived by her siblings: Carol and Ken Guertin of Tulsa, Alice Hogsett-Carter and Allen Carter of Benton, AR, Gail and Steve Peterson of Iola, TX, Gary and Annie Hogsett of Independence, KS, Joe and Marcia Hogsett of Oklahoma City, OK, John and Joann Hogsett of Edmond, OK, and David and Stacy Hogsett of Auburn, CA.
Rita, who took great joy in her many nieces, nephews and friends, was quick to laugh and lend a hand. She was a life-long volunteer and mentor, active in Girl Scouts, SCORE and other non-profits. Rita loved living in Colorado and always had a project planned or underway. She loved quilting, weaving, sewing, reading, traveling, shopping and time with friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Rita’s friends and family will celebrate her life on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm (come and go) in the Barbara Fortino Conf Room in the Student Center at PCC. An event will also be held in Oklahoma at a later date. Memorials in Rita’s name can be directed to the PCC Foundation or any Girl Scouts organization.
