Dr. Robert T. Knight, Sr, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. Dr. Knight was the son of the late William Cary Knight and Ruth Holroyd Knight. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Knight; step son, Jason Watkins and his wife Pam; step daughter, Mecca Rodriguez and her husband Francisco; grandchildren, Christine Craig, Jacob Craig, Bailey Watkins and Maddox Watkins; great grandchildren, Rylee Craig, Gracie Ring, Carter Craig, Takara Craig and Mahayla Witherspoon; special niece and nephew, Beth Lindsey and John Knight, Jeff Wray, Randall Wray, Donnie Wray, Trent Way, along numerous other nieces and nephews, sisters in law, Bertha Parkhurst and Linda Wray and her husband David, Janice Henderson, Rhonda Grooms, Sherry Grooms, Amy White, and Donna Roland. One brother in law Norman Sonnier. Services to celebrate Dr. Knight will be at Two O’clock the afternoon of Sunday, October 27, 2019 with placement to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Robert was born in Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He attended Campus Training School, he worked at Knights Clothing Store on the square in Murfreesboro, Tennessee during his breaks from school.
Robert graduated from Central High School in 1954, Murfreesboro, from MTSU for undergraduate in 1958 and attended UT Health and Science Center College of Medicine in, Memphis, Tennessee in 1960. He was an MD at 24 years of age. His residency was at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, General Surgery, St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was affiliated with St Thomas Rutherford Hospital and retired from Murfreesboro Medical Center 5 Years ago. He practiced medicine for 59 years. He was a member of the American Medical Association and Stones River Academy of Medicine.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Knight was preceded in death by his son, Robert T. Knight, Jr, his twin brother, Dr. Joseph C. Knight and his sister, Ruth Hurst and older brother Cary Knight.
