Eugene Kenneth Greanya was born August 11, 1931 in Edmonton, Alberta to Elmer Clifford Greanya (Arenac, Michigan) and Blanche Maria King (Hull, Quebec). He was the youngest of nine siblings: Kenneth, Nina, Cecile, Dorothy, Clayton, Irwin, Leonard, and Lucille.
He grew up near Bashaw, Alberta, where he met and married Elsie Shaw. When their children were young they moved to Edmonton where they brought up their family, camping and fishing whenever they could, and gardening. Most of his working life was spent with Crown Tire. Eugene made many friends over these years. After retirement they moved to an acreage near Wabamun, Alberta where they spent the next 20 years creating a haven that could be shared with relatives and friends. In June of 2016 they moved to a lodge in Stony Plain, Alberta where they comfortably resided until his passing.
He was a loving and proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. He is survived by his wife Elsie of almost 68 years; his daughter Sherrill (Charlie) Thompson; his son Chet (Dow); 4 grandchildren: Melanie Chalmers, Karina (Stephen) Crooks, Aaron (Michelle) Thompson, and Naomi (Robert) Ferleyko; 3 great-grandchildren: Charlize Weare, Kye Weare, and Sawyer Thompson; many nieces and nephews and numerous friends of all ages.
Eugene’s service will be held on Saturday, November 23th, 2019 at 11:00 am at Parkland Funeral Services (3502 44 Ave, Stony Plain AB T7Z 1L1). A luncheon and Celebration of Life will be held afterwards at the Stony Plain Heritage Pavilion 5100-41 Ave (in the Spruce Grove Room).
