Ann Louise Hamilton was born in Pontiac, Michigan to parents Kenneth McAsh and Grace May (Mayers) Hamilton on June 5, 1940. She was the middle sister to Elaine and Kay. As a young girl, Ann was always up early playing. She was always playing in the neighborhood and very popular with the boys and. Many young men were in love with Ann!
Ann graduated from Central Michigan University and went on to earn her master’s degree at Oakland University.
Ann married Robert G Crumpton in Pontiac, Michigan on June 17th, 1967. They were blessed with two children – a son, Robert Cochran Crumpton; and a daughter, Susan Louise Crumpton
Ann began teaching 6th grade in Claire, Michigan and then in Waterford Village and Plymouth, Michigan.
The young family moved to Oregon in 1974 and made a home in Beaverton.
In Oregon, Ann was as a teacher and Child Development specialist in Beaverton school district. In Beaverton, Ann taught at Rock Creek Elementary, Elmonica Elementary, and Fir Grove Elementary. She worked with children and families in need and was known as the “Duso Lady”, after a dolphin puppet she playfully used to teach social skills. At the end of her career, she served as Beaverton Education Association President. She was a strong minded, involved, dedicated union organizer and activist.
Her service to her community expanded beyond her role as an educator. Ann volunteered for meals on wheels, was an active member in the Four Seasons neighborhood association where she lived.
Ann loved music and played piano wonderfully. She was a Barbara Streisand aficionado and she favored Baroque music. With 2 friends she created “The Baroquettes” consisting of 2 recorders and a piano. They gave concerts in the family room.
Ann loved to travel and she and Robert traveled extensively to the Amazon, Europe, Opal Lake near Gaylord Michigan, River cruises, Peru, South America, and Mexico.
She lived in Beaverton for most of her life and following retirement, Ann lived part time in Tucson, Arizona where she golfed, played bridge, collected art and enjoyed the warmer weather.
Ann was a wonderful, playful grandma and an avid reader – she started and participated in several book clubs in Oregon and Arizona.
Ann will be remembered as a smart, playful, funny, strong, and caring woman. Ann was a great wife, mother and grandmother, and an amazing teacher and advocate.
Ann is predeceased by her husband Robert G. Crumpton (2015); and her parents Kenneth and Grace (Mayers) Hamilton.
She is survived by her two children, Robert C. Crumpton and Susan L. Crumpton and; her 2 sisters Elaine Kosik (Hamilton) and Kay Lewis (Hamilton); and her four grandchildren, Samantha, Isabella, Madeline, and Chloe Crumpton.
Ann’s Party will be at Cheatham Hall at the World Forestry Center, 4033 SW Canyon Rd, Portland, Oregon, on November 23rd, 2019, from 2-5pm.
Ann will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens of Portland, Oregon
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Planned Parenthood of Oregon or the Oregon Education Association Foundation.
