Michael Walter Hungo was born in Taylor, Michigan on December 1, 1937 to Lottie and Mike Hungo. He was one of 4 children. Michael passed away peacefully in West Bloomfield, Michigan on Friday, November 1, 2019 at the age of 81.
Michael was the beloved husband of Christine (Sekscinski) Hungo for 57 years. Loving brother of Carl (Betty) Hungo, and JoAnnne Hungo Ellerbrake. Dear uncle of Karen Lemire, Theresa Gunn, Jill Ellerbrake, Amy Oatfield, and Paul Berger. Great-uncle of Molly Oatfield, Gabrielle Berger and David Berger. He will also be missed by his extended family of cousins and many friends including Walter Bielski, Daniel (Betty Lou) Bielski, Rita (Robert) Toboy, and Evelyn Geile.
Michael was preceded in death by; parents Mike and Lottie Hungo and sister Christine Victoria Hungo.
Michael was a U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran who was always a gentleman. He was an artist and retired art teacher. He graduated with a Master's degree of the Arts from Eastern Michigan University. Michael loved children and taught all ages for Dearborn Public Schools, although he primarily was with the elementary children. In his leisure, Michael could be found listening to Elvis Presley's Gospel music. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and traveled many places to do so. His home is adorned with game trophies and photos of his prized catches along with his Egyptian art collection. He had a appreciation for fine art and adventure, however he was kind and humble at the same time. He loved nothing more than simply being a husband of 57 years and sharing in all of his adventures with his beloved Christine. Michael touched the lives of hundreds of children that he taught over the years as well as the faculty members he taught with, and the many friends he shared adventures with. He will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.
Michael's family will receive guests for a visitation on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm with an evening vigil service at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. (East of I-275 and Newburgh Road). Michael's life will be celebrated with a 10:00am Funeral Mass at St. Colette Catholic Parish, 17600 Newburgh Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. (Just north of Six Mile Road) Final viewing will begin at 9:30am at the church. Michael will be laid to rest in Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, 32163 W. Huron River Drive, Flat Rock, Michigan 48134.
Contributions in Michael's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. However Michael's favorite charities were Children's Hospital and Eastern Michigan University Arts Department.
