She married James Delbert “Bert” Hayes on February 20, 1939. He preceded her July 3, 1983 after 44 years of marriage. Also, nine siblings preceded her. She was the last survivor. She was a member Bethany Presbyterian Church for many years and attended when able. She received the Life Membership pin for services in the church work. She was a member of the Happy Seniors Club for a number of years. She worked in textiles for years, first with P. McNeer Dillion and retired from Piedmont Knitting in 1990. She then spent some very memorable hours with the late Mary Lundy, Bessie Reves and Annie Austin.
She is survived by one daughter, Wilma Hayes Bass (Jack); four grandchildren, Ronny Bass (Pat), Jo Ann Bass Cook (Keith), Gayle Bass Taylor (Jody) and Trudy Bass Goforth (Robert); three great-grandchildren, Lorne Cook (Sonya), Lucy Cook and Elizabeth Goforth; one step-great-granddaughter, Kimberly Hill (Scott); five step-great-great grandchildren, Katie, Kaleb and Kara Hill, Emalee and Nathan Money; one great-great grandson, Jackson Cook and several nieces and nephews.
She loved all her family and her church family and friends old and new.
Services will be held at Bethany Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 1:30 PM with the family greeting friends following the service. Burial will be private in the church cemetery.
