Ruth was born in Washington, DC and grew up on Capitol Hill. Ruth was graduated from Eastern High School following which she attended Strayer’s Business College. During WWII Ruth was employed by the American Automobile Association and the Hod Carriers Union. Later she worked for and retired from the American Gas Association.
In 1945 she married Norman Monroe Dettor, Jr. of Washington, DC, a WWII Seabees Navy veteran. They raised three children, Stephen Norman Dettor (Lee Daniel Dettor), of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Diane Ruth Deering (John Stafford Deering) of Cape Coral, Florida and Wendy Sue Dettor of Arlington, VA.
Ruth later married Walter B. Cosdon of Arlington, VA who predeceased her.
Ruth is also survived by her six grandsons, Shaun Deering (Jill), Steve Dettor (Gina), Todd Dettor (Margie), Trimmer Dettor (Mary Jo), David Dettor (Heather) and Daniel Dettor (Nora) and eight great grandchildren, Parker, Lulu, Nash, Olive, Trimmer, Clarke, Brooke and Delle.
The family plans a private Celebration of Life in the future.
