Shirley Mae Weber was born on July 29th, 1929 in Duncansville, Pennsylvania. At the age of 6 months, she moved to Holidaysburg, PA where she spent her childhood until moving to York at the age of 14. After graduating from William Penn Sr. High School in 1947, she married Harry E. Diehl and had two children, David and Daniel Diehl. She worked at the York Corporation and then at Fincor for 34 years, with her best friend Marie Miller, from where she retired. She was a devout Christian and an active member of the First Baptist Church of York participating in many church and community activities including teaching Sunday School, the bell choir and the Stepping Tones community choir. Shirley looked forward to her weekly trips to the York Market often accompanied by her niece and companion Jane Weber DeLancey. She shared a very special bond with her granddaughter Wendy Kay, who came and lived with her for a short while. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, service to her church and greater community, and love of animals. She took in many strays and adopted her dogs from the local Humane Society. Shirley was exceptionally kind and will be remembered as a warm light by those whose lives she touched.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Diehl; her parents Verna Wise Weber and Clair L.Weber; and brothers; Donald, Clair W., and Leonard Weber. She is survived by her sons David Diehl and Daniel Diehl and grandchildren, Wendy Kay Diehl-Hartford, David Ryan Diehl, Jeremy Diehl, Jorge O. Diehl, Itzhia Valadez, Gardenia Valadez and her great grandson, Graham Diehl.
