Tommy Lee Forrest was born on Friday, August 10th, 1945 to Euell Lee and Vivian (Eslinger) Forrest. One of five children, Tommy grew up with two brothers, Gary and Kyle and two sisters, Carol and Sherry. During his childhood, he contracted polio, a disease which left his legs weakened. This was not something Tommy would let limit his abilities. He rose above and exceeded in everything he did. Tommy attended school in Oaks and later attended NSU. He loved to work with his hands and was a skilled carpenter that built many beautiful houses for people in the area. He was a hard working’ cowboy; braking and training race horses, and owned and operated Green Country Downs horse track as well as roping arenas in Peggs and Oaks. He baled and hauled hay and operated the smoke shop in Hulbert, as well as working at the sale barn. He attained the title of ”1993 Rookie of the Year” in the Region 8 Indian Rodeo Association. He was a lifetime member of AQHA and a member of the USTRC .Gardening was a pastime he enjoyed and raised the best tomatoes in the area. When he wasn’t spending his waking moments with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he looked forward to aggravating the ones he loved most, and was the best friend his grandkids ever had. Everyone knew, the more Tommy picked on you, the more he liked you. Tommy passed from this life at the age of 74 on Thursday, November 14th, 2019 in Tahlequah, OK, surrounded by family he loved so much. He’s guided on that long, dim, trail that stretches upward to the great Divide. May the trail take you safely home.
