Mr. Roy Burris Purvis Jr., age 70 of Salisbury passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at his home. Born on November 17, 1948 in Rockingham, he was the son of the late Roy Burris Purvis, Sr. and Geneva Kimrey Purvis. After attending the Richmond County Schools, he went on to join the US Army, proudly serving his country in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Earlier in life, Roy worked ten years for PPG Industries for and then served as a guard at Piedmont Correctional Institute. He was a patrol officer and a lieutenant in the detective division of the Rowan County Sheriff's Department where he worked for 29 years. He retired and then returned as a transporter of inmates.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Crystal Purvis Zink (James), his sisters, Cathy Purvis and Joalice Purvis Weatherford (Tommy), as well as his grandson Ryan Zink.
Visitation for Roy will be on Monday, November 18, 2019 from 7:00 - 9:00pm at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 2:00pm in Chapel at the funeral home with Pastor Gene Edwards, officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove with full military honors.
