The family of Joseph Henry Reid, veteran of WWII, The Korean War and peace-keeping (Germany), regret to announce his passing at Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Hospital, Halifax, on November18th, 2019 at age 93.
Joe, the son of Charles and Aurelia (Pye) Reid was born in Halifax on June 26, 1926, and spent his early life in Halifax and Ecum Secum.
Following the outbreak of WWII, Joe enlisted and after initial training at Lachine, P.Q., he was shipped overseas to England where further training led to the Canadian Air Force and his life career with the Air Transport Division. He served the vital task of moving essential supplies from North America to England and later to the European Continent. His further service took him to all over North America and many locations across the world. For his long and faithful service, Joe received eight different medals, including The Defense of Britain medal, NATO medal (for service in Germany), and The Korean U.N. war medal.
In retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially winters in Florida where he played his beloved golf.
He is survived by his daughters Mary and Janet, sister, Francine (Bright), brother Derek (wife Ethel), grandchild Carly, and great-grandchildren Ava, Quillan, Iris, and Matilda. He was predeceased by his son David, Sisters Estelle, Irene, Ruth and brothers Frank and Bill.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place following the service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ecum Secum West at 2 pm on Thursday November 21st, 2019. Funeral arrangements by Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Halifax, and Crowell’s Funeral Home, Sheet Harbour. The family are most appreciative of the care and services provided by the staff of the Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Hospital, Halifax.
