Peter Freeland Miller, son of the late Alan Baldwin Miller and Betty Jane Miller, was born on January 26, 1950 in Stamford, Connecticut. He attended and graduated from Saint Luke’s School and completed his higher education at Franklin & Marshall College with a degree in English Literature and minor in Psychology. Peter’s lifelong love of fishing started at an early age when he spent countless hours fishing with his father and brothers. After different careers including working for a hatchery in Idaho and being a lobsterman in Connecticut, he purchased a bait and tackle shop in Stamford that he aptly named, “Pete’s Place Bait & Tackle”. The residents of Stamford and the surrounding areas came to him for advice on fishing spots and techniques, as well as to listen to his many stories. He was well-known for his many “fish tales”. Peter encouraged the success of his fisherman colleagues and made sure to take a Polaroid photo of everyone’s catches to display on his walls in the bait shop. Peter quietly passed away on November 21, 2019 after a long, well-fought battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his brothers Stephen Miller and Douglas Miller.
Peter’s life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Peter Miller of Ellsworth, Maine, Hannah Miller of Thomasville, Georgia, Johnathan Miller of Honolulu, Hawaii, Julia Miller of Thomasville, Georgia, Stephen Miller of Quitman, Georgia, and Sarah Miller of Quitman, Georgia; brother Christopher Miller of Pound Ridge, New York; sister-in-law Allison Miller; nieces Whitney Miller and Madeline Miller; nephew Braden Miller; great nephew Luca Miller; and finally the love of his life, Silvia Burrowes.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 1pm- 3pm at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford.
