Paul F. Insley was born in 1927 and raised in the Hamilton area of Baltimore City. He graduated at the top of his class from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and the United States Army drafted him immediately into basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Paul was deployed to Goritza, Italy during World War II in the 88th Division and served as a battalion motor sergeant. He then turned down a battlefield appointment to West Point to receive final discharge from the Army in May 1947. He also served in the Army as a staff sergeant during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951.
Paul played with the famous Arcadia football team and was the MVP in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida in January 1948.
Paul led a fulfilling career, beginning as a businessman in Baltimore. He dedicated over twenty-six years to Rice’s Bakeryfrom 1948 to 1974. He worked his way up the ladder from Route Salesman to Vice President of the whole corporation. As Vice President, he oversaw nearly six hundred employees. From 1974 until his retirement in January of 1993, Paul worked for the Maryland Lottery. He started as Chain Relations Manager and retired as Regional Sales Manager.
Even though he led a successful career, the most important job to Paul was caring for his family. He was a devoted husband to the late Anita Cesky Insley whom he married in September of 1950. He supported her dream and together they created Anita’s Dance Studio in Parkville, Maryland. Paul and Anita had six children: Frank, Robin, Debra, Jeffrey, Roger, and Misty. After his wife’s passing, Paul balanced his work with raising his six children as a single father. The family that he and Anita started continued to grow, and Paul had so much pride for his nine grandchildren: Paul and Craig Insley, John and Bret Voith, Thomas and Vincent Pacheco, Chelsea Mitchell, and Haley and Luke Murnane. Paul saw his family grow even larger and enjoyed eight great-grandchildren.
