Joe Reina, 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 24 at CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston with his family by his side. Joe was born July 24, 1930 in Bryan the son of Tony and Frances (Stabler) Reina.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Joe served his country in the US Army as a Corporal from 1952-1954. When he returned home, he met and married the love of his life; Mary Ann Ponzio. Joe retired from Sanitary Milk Dairies after 25 years. He then owned and operated Cash Food Market and Ponzio & Reina Grocery with partners Louis & Charlotte Ponzio for 15 years. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Joe was a man of honor and integrity. He loved God and lived according to his faith. Joe never met a stranger and was kind to everyone. He enjoyed ranching and was known for his talent in training horses. His reputation was so great that he always had a waiting list. Another favorite past time was trips to the casino with his special friends. Most of all he will be remembered for the love he showed everyone and especially for his wife, his daughters, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Frances Reina; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Louise Reina, and Frank and Mavis Reina.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann (Ponzio) Reina; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Frankie McLewis, Judy and Eddie Lero; grandchildren, Allison Gardner and husband Forrest, Jennifer Pace and husband James, Courtney Court and husband Tony, Edward Lero II and wife Jen, Stacey DeStefano and husband David; great-grandchildren, Cooper Pace, Rhylee Gardner, Emmy Court, Edward “Tres” Lero III, Catherine and Ryan DeStefano; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Benny and Brenda Ponzio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe loved everyone but he was only “in love” with his beautiful wife; Mary Ann.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the restoration of the Stained Glass Window Project at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or a charity of choice.
