Arthur Gerard Cardenas was born on September 3, 1962 in San Antonio, Texas. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on November 24, 2019. Art was a loving husband to his wife, Connie, who both shared in 35 years of marriage. He was a loving father to his three sons Arthur, Joshua, and Paul.
At the age of 21, he began working for the Travis County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. During his 28 years, he worked on the SWAT team, moved up to the ranks of lieutenant, and retired as a captain. Upon retirement, he fulfilled his passion by opening the Fit Pit Boxing Gym and coaching throughout the Austin boxing community. He also was instrumental in returning the Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament back to Austin in 2010.
While making memories with his wife and sons and serving the Sheriff’s Department, he also loved serving his fellow believers throughout his church. He enjoyed going to the beach with his family and saltwater fishing. After retiring, he was often found watching football and boxing with both friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur U. Cardenas and Eva Cardenas and son, Arthur Alberto Jesus Cardenas. He is survived by his wife, Connie Cardenas; sons, Joshua and Paul Cardenas; sister, Celina Garcia; brothers, Gilbert and Mike Cardenas; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Sheriff Memorial Benevolent Society and the Travis County Sheriff Law Enforcement Association for their support during this difficult time.
