Fritz was born in Beemer, Nebraska on July 25, 1939 to Leo and Lillian (Konopasek) Wortman. He had two older sisters Midge & MaryAnn. He went to high school in Wisner, NE and graduated in 1956. After high school he worked for his father selling cars. In 1962, he joined the Army. Fritz enjoyed talking about his days as a Staff Sergeant.
Fritz married Nancy Adams. They had two children Todd Wortman and Terri Wortman. Fritz and Nancy divorced in 1979. In 1983 Fritz moved to the Kansas City area working in the auto sales industry most of which was with and for Jim Tawney.
He was proud of his sales accomplishments and the awards and trips that his efforts won him. He took vacations all over the US to beautiful destinations. He enjoyed watching the KC Royals, KC Chiefs and was always a loyal Nebraska Huskers fan (GO BIG RED). Fritz loved riding his Harleys and enjoyed the company and comradery with his fellow riders. He always said it “made him feel alive" when he rode. He enjoyed his weekly coffee with the guys.
Fritz had many friends but none more like a brother than Jim Tawney. His friendship was important to Fritz, and Jim became an integral part of his kids’ lives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and his granddaughter. Survivors include his son Todd Wortman (life partner Martha Cervantes) and his daughter Terri Wortman (life partner Adrian Bovia).
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 4:00 pm at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 4:30 pm in the McGilley event room. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 6800 West 93rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
