Barbara J. Peek, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 28th. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Philip A. Peek. She is survived by daughters Jan (Doug) Bradford and Karen (Jack) Padgett and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am, Dec. 9th, at Monument View Bible Church, 1173 17 ½ Rd., in Fruita, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Camp Elim, 5567 County Rd. 78, Woodland Park, CO 80863.
Phil and Barb were well-known and respected business owners in the Denver area, operating a group of Hatch's gift and book stores. Phil took care of the financial matters and Barb was the buyer. Though they were highly successful in business, it was not their top priority. In fact, Barb had a plaque on her office desk that read: "Labor Hard, Consume Little, Give Much and All to Christ."
It was to Jesus Christ that Barb's true devotion was directed. Barb made it a point to read through the Bible every year for a number of years. She was deeply committed to her church, Southwest Bible Chapel in Lakewood. She was regularly seen at the piano, singing in a duet or trio, and helping with fellowship events. She was committed to hospitality. Their home was the site of youth group events, meetings, showers, and even wedding receptions. In fact, they had a guest room in their home that they called "the Prophet's Chamber" where they would host itinerant preachers. She was also devoted to the ministry of Camp Elim, a Christian youth camp in Woodland Park, CO. Barb made it a point to serve as a camp counselor every year for many years.
In addition to her relationship with the Lord Jesus, the other top priority in their lives was their children and grandchildren. Phil and Barb had three children: a son that they lost through miscarriage, and two daughters, Janet and Karen. Jan and Doug and Karen and Jack added six grandchildren: Jennifer, Alyssa, Annie, Kristin, Josh and Mandi. It was the first grandchild, Jennifer, that awarded Barb the name by which most of us know her best. They had decided that "Granny Barb" was an appropriate title for her. However, Jen had trouble saying that and ended up calling her "Bop!" Needless to say, the title stuck and Barb has been affectionately called Bop ever since! Bop was also a great grandma to Chloe, Will and Jaedyn. A foster child will hopefully be formally added to the family through adoption and great-grandchild #5 will make his or her appearance in May! Phil and Barb's house was always the fun place to go for holidays, birthday parties and pool parties.
Phil went to be with the Lord in June of 2003 and Barb accepted this loss of her best friend and life partner with grace and the comfort of her Savior. She left her home in Denver to move to Fruita in 2007. She embraced her new life in the Grand Valley with joy. She loved the fellowship at Monument View Bible Church and assisted her daughter Jan in the office every Tuesday and Thursday for 9 years!
Bop went to be with the Savior she loved on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2019. Her love for the Lord and her way of making everyone she's with feel like the most important person in the world will be greatly missed. We thank the Lord for her faithful testimony and generosity to the work of her Lord, Jesus Christ.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, December 09, 2019 at the Monument View Bible Church, 1173 17 1/2 Road, Fruita, CO 81521 at 11:30AM.
