Cecil Earl Fields, 100 of Slaton, TX. went to be with the Lord and Savior on December 1, 2019. He was born to Charlie and Virgie Fields on January 22 1919, in Ladonia, TX. He Married Ruby Hornsby on February 8, 1940 in Denison, TX. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps.
He started his farming career in Ladonia, Texas. He moved his family to Wilson, TX. in 1951 where he farmed until his retirement. Where there he was a member of the Wilson Baptist Church, serving as a deacon. He and his wife moved to Commerce, TX in 1977. Several years after the death of his wife, Ruby he moved back to the Lubbock area.
Cecil spent a lot of time in his earlier years fishing and enjoyed playing dominos with friends and family. His grandchildren had a special place in his heart, and nothing brought a big smile to his face more than when any of his grandchildren came to visit.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters; and two daughters, Earlene Smerud and Pat McCormick. He is survived by three daughters, Sue (George) Webb, Mae (Homer) Cleckler, Linda (Johnny) Flanagan; one son, John (Donna) Fields; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Alvin Fields and one sister, Mary Hayes.
Graveside service will be held at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce, TX, at 11:00 AM Monday, December 9, 2019. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Lubbock or Wilson First Baptist Church. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Library of Legacy in Slaton, TX where Cecil lived for the last years. The compassion and dedication shown to Cecil was above and beyond any expectation.
