Keith was born in Pontiac Michigan, the only child of Leo Thomas Hartley and Imogene Elizabeth (Nicholson). He attended St Hugo Elementary School and graduated from Brother Rice Catholic High School. Choosing to attend the University of Notre Dame, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and eventually became a Certified Public Accountant. On December 27th, 1967, he married the love of his life and best friend, Michele Terese (Allen). When duty called, he enlisted in the US Army and served for three years, stationed in various locations, including Wiesbaden, Germany. His only child, a son, was born in Huntsville, Alabama at Redstone Arsenal. After being discharged from the Army, he worked for Earnst & Earnst, J.L. Hudson Co., and the Vogue women’s clothing store in Michigan. In 1979, he moved to Fort Pierce, Florida with his wife and son, and started his own accounting business. Community service was an important aspect of his life and he committed to serving on the Boards of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, Treasure Coast Opera Society, St. Lucie County Humane Society, and the Pregnancy Care Center of Fort Pierce. He was serving on the finance committee of St. Anastasia Catholic School at the time of his death. He is a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach. He is a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a founding member of the council at St. John of the Cross. As an alumnus, he is a member of the Vero Beach Notre Dame Club.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Michele, his son Paul (Marisha), and his grandson David; sisters-in-laws: Joanne Allen, Patricia Medel, Margaret Sanford (Deforest), Judith Traxler (John); brother-in-law John Cullen; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Predeceased included his parents, brother-in-laws: Lynd Allen, Leonard Medel; sister-in-law Joanne Cullen.
A visitation for Keith will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home.
A funeral service will occur Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7550 26th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32966.
