Betty Foote Mason, born on December 7, 1923 in Dallas, Texas, passed away on November 29, 2019. Her husband of over 77 years, James Leon Mason, who was born on October 26, 1922 in Farmersville, Texas, passed away 24 hours later on Saturday, November 30, 2019. Betty attended Pleasant Grove High School and was a 90-year member of the former Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church. She served as a Vacation Bible School teacher and was a Cub Scout Pack leader. James attended Woodrow Wilson High School and continuing education classes at SMU. He was a member of the former Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years and served as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher and in other leadership roles. He became a Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge in 1961. James worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for over 39 years. He was a telephone credit union officer and wrote their newsletter for many years. James also taught over 100 Defensive Driving classes and was the Public Address Announcer for the Pleasant Grove Football Stadium for 15 years. James was famous for corny jokes, asking LOTS of questions and precise and detailed descriptions of every car ever made. James and Betty relocated to Keller, TX for the last eight years and attended Keller United Methodist Church. Our family is so grateful for the faithful and loving caregivers, Marilyn Poore Gondolf and Susan Coffman Yarbrough, who missed many of their own family holidays and events to care for James and Betty for the last three years. James was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Mason and Ruth Wilson Mason; sister, Mary Ann Houston and brother, Charles Mason. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Porter Foote and Gracie Watts Foote and sister, Dorothy Elmore. They are survived by son, Jim Mason and wife, Sandra; Jody Westbrook Bergman and husband, Mike and son, Porter Mason and wife, Elenor. They are also survived by six grandchildren, Paul Westbrook, Gracie Packwood, Jake Mason, Carrie Mahan, Lauren Lamp and Kelli Mason and 11 great-grandchildren.
