A native of McDowell County, Ms. Johnson was born March 2, 1930. She graduated from Hudgins High School. She worked for Hilltop Nursing Home, which is now known as Autumn Care, for many years. Ms. Johnson was a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church where, before her declining health, she served as usher and several other positions. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, going to the McDowell County Senior Center and participating in the senior games.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Luvie Fowler and Paul Fowler and one sister, Maggie Carson.
Those left behind to cherish Ms. Johnson’s memory are two daughters, Yvonne McDaniel and Yvette Johnson (Richard); one brother, Elledge Fowler (Sarah Ann); three grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Letoya Tate and Victor McDaniel; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a special cousin, Ernestine Shields; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Monday, December 9, 2019 at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. A funeral service to celebrate Ms. Johnson’s life will follow at 2:00 PM with Dr. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
