She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Liz was born in Dryden, ON and raised in Dinorwic. She has always had a deep emotional connection with the area. She spent most of her life in Dryden working at the Hudson Bay store then at Safeway for many years. She then relocated and followed her daughter to live in Winnipeg then on to Kenora with her where she has spent her time with her there since 2007. Her daughter and her shared and close and special life long bond
If you were lucky enough to know Liz (affectionately called Lizzy by all) you would know what a loving, caring and giving person she was. She would give you the shirt off her back and go without just to make someone else not have to. Don’t let her petite size fool you though! She was also a little powerhouse when she wanted to be! The feisty Italian side of her could come out when things might have went sideways. You definitely wanted this little woman in your corner for back up :)
Lizzy was pretty passionate about the outdoors and the lake. She loved to fish! Her true happy place. While living in Dryden the log cottage our family and friends built on Wabigoon Lake was her sanctuary. She was so proud of it and loved it more than anything. Fast forward to the last few years to her daughter’s place on Lake of the Woods which became her getaway. She always had her rod and tackle box ready. She spent a great deal of time here and could be found fishing off the dock or jumping in the boat with Trevor. It never failed that she always caught the biggest fish every time. Trevor is a lifelong fishing guide and it would make him crazy she would win our fun tournaments on her $20 Walmart Ugly Stick fishing rod and old school reel and his fancy rod and reel left him in last place when fishing with her every time.
Lizzy loved puzzles and reading books. She always had a puzzle on the go and at least 2 - 3 books at a time. She was passionate about cooking and trying new recipes and her food was always a huge hit! She did not know how to cook for one, instead she always made enough to feed an army and would always share with everyone in her apartment building. Her recipe collection will be forever cherished especially her hangover spaghetti soup and secret ingredient spaghetti sauce recipe she was famous for.
Lizzy did love her TV shows as well. Some days she would live in the bedroom, drink her tea and do marathon sessions of certain shows. You couldn’t bother her on Sundays when Coronation Street was on! That was a big no no lol. Her other daily favourites were the Forensic Files, The Doctor’s and Dr. Phil. She was a self-proclaimed expert on every medical condition known to man and would offer her expertise on this regularly to anyone who would listen. She would bring a smile and a laugh to us all when she would offer her diagnosis for any ailment big or small. I guess it saves a trip to the Dr. office :)
Mom had a strong tie and connection with her culture too. She loved researching her ancestry and was a proud member of the WAABIGONIIW SAAGA’IGANIIW ANISHINAABEG Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation. Many respects to them as well for their support during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Life reception in lieu of a service will be held this Saturday, December 7th, 2019 from 12:00pm - 3:00pm, at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12 in Kenora ON with a farewell of her ashes in the Dryden area in the summer of 2020 (date to be determined).
I love you Mom and although I was not ready to say goodbye I take solace in knowing your soul is now at peace and that our angels who have left before us are there with you to take good care you like you deserve. You may be gone from my arms but never from my heart! I love you forever.
You Mother is Always with You.
She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street, she’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself, She’s the cool hand on your brow when your not feeling well, she’s your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day. She is the sound of rain that lulls you to sleep, the colours of a rainbow, she is Christmas morning. She’s the place you came from, your first home, and she’s the map you follow with every step you take. She’s your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate you. Not time, not space… not even death.
