Carroll was born in New Orleans on February 7, 1929 and grew up in the Franklin area having lived on Lacy Plantation, two miles out of Franklin. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1946 and attended LSU. He later received a degree in Business Administration from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL). Carroll also served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.
He worked a number of years for Mobil Oil in Geophysical starting in the Gulf and transferring to West Texas and New Mexico.
Carroll has been a resident of Jeanerette since 1972 and worked for the local automobile dealerships, Lapeyrouse Motors, Jeanerette Motors, and Robin Motors. He also worked for the city of Jeanerette as the Housing Administrator for the HUD Federal Housing Program. When Carroll wanted to relax from a long day he would listen to music, his favorite being strings and piano.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helena Granger Thomason; his guardians, Ignace and Lucille Granger; and his cousin, Ray Guarisco. Survivors include his cousins, Tommy Granger of New Iberia, Robert Granger of Hawaii, Denis Granger of Alexandria, Gary Gates of Longmont, CO, and Bobby Terrebonne of Mandeville.; and his longtime friend, Nancy.
In keeping with Carroll’s wishes, graveside memorial services will be held at Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum at 2:00 pm Monday, December 16, 2019 where he will be laid to rest with his mother.
