Theodore Fredrick Gabel, 92, of Bellerose Terrace and Sarasota FL passed on December 23, 2019 to be joined with his beloved wife Mildred. Predeceased by his daughter Alicia Doucett, he is survived by daughters Janice Gabel, Claire (Bill) Anderson, and Lorraine (Phil Lester)Sweat, grandchildren Joel (Brittany Schaefer) Orr, Jeffrey (Theresa Conway) Orr, Heather Gabel, Philip (Ece) Doucett, Jason Doucett, Ashley Doucett, Courtney (Michael) Smith, Bryan (Jennifer) Anderson, Chelsea Anderson, Keith (Melissa Surozenski) Sweat, Daniel (Genelle) Sweat, Timothy Sweat, Amanda Sweat, and Deanna Sweat. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, sister Mary Lou Mullen, and many nieces and nephews. Fondly known as Ted, he volunteered for over 60 years in numerous fire organizations including as a volunteer firefighter, Ex-Chief, and Commissioner of the Bellerose Terrace Fire Department. Member of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York, Southern New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Past Commissioner of Nassau County Fire Commission, Member of 1st Battalion Chiefs Association. Past President of South Shore Firemen’s Association, Nassau County Parade Officials, and New York State Chiefs. While in Sarasota, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed volunteering to cook fish for their fundraiser during Lent on Fridays, and at the Baltimore Orioles Spring Training Camp selling hot dogs at the concession stand.
