LaVonne Genevieve Frick (Lassig), 86, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Karen Acres, in Urbandale. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Ankeny Free Church (118 NW Linden St, Ankeny, IA) with visitation at the church one hour prior to service. Burial will be January 4, 2020, at Goodwin Cemetery in Goodwin, SD.
LaVonne was born January 27, 1933, in Goodwin, SD to Emil and Genevieve (Goddard) Lassig. LaVonne lived in Goodwin SD with her maternal grandparents through 8th grade. She moved to Clermont, IA with her parents and graduated from Clermont High School in 1952. In 1953, LaVonne married Ahlert at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA and to this union one daughter, Wanda was born. LaVonne later married Richard Paul in 1962, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
LaVonne was a nurse’s aid at West Union Memorial Hospital for about ten years. She loved taking care of people from babies through the elderly her entire life.
LaVonne enjoyed reading and knitting. She was a Minnesota Twins fan and very rarely missed watching the games on TV. LaVonne was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Goodwin and attended Ankeny Free Church where she was part of the JOY group (Jesus’ Older Youth). She helped fold the church bulletins every week.
LaVonne is survived by daughter, Wanda (Gary) Shaw; granddaughter, Amy (Dave) Gielow, grandsons, Martin (Jessica) Shaw and Matthew Shaw, 7 great grandchildren and numerous cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Harlan Lassig and two husbands, Ahlert Osterhus and Richard Paul Frick.
