Helene Merle Adams was born on November 18, 1930 in Colorado Springs to Merle and Helen (Morton) Adams and grew up on the Happy Hollow Ranch near Elizabeth, Colorado. She rode her horse, Bill, to the nearest county road to catch the bus to school in Elizabeth. She attended Colorado A&M, now Colorado State University, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general science in 1952.
She married Warren Gresham on June 20, 1954, forming a partnership that grew stronger with each of their 65 years together, characterized by unflagging devotion, unwavering support and a deep commitment to one another. Together they raised their family, raised cattle and sheep, faithfully served as members of the Elbert Christian Church and were actively involved in the Elbert Community. An avid reader, Helene served on the Elbert County Library Board for many years. She also served as secretary and treasurer of the Elbert Fire Board, was a longtime member of Elbert Women’s Club, and a faithful member of the Ladies Aid at Elbert Christian Church.
Helene Gresham, with her head held high and her back erect, walked on strong legs into heaven and the welcoming arms of her Savior on December 31, 2019 in Colorado Springs. It had been many years since she had seen anything clearly, but with her vision restored, we’re sure she recognized her Lord immediately as she has known Him for a long time. The physical limitations that frustrated her for so long are gone and we rejoice in her victory as we mourn our loss.
She leaves behind her faithful and caring husband, Warren Gresham. Her legacy includes her children, Jim and Dianne Gresham of Jeannette, Pennsylvania; John and Gayle Gresham and Thomas and Heather Gresham of Elbert; her grandchildren (who could do no wrong in her eyes), Amy, Kate, Kenny and Shelby, Mark, Austin, Jesse and Bryce Gresham; and her great-grandchildren, Tobin, Ansley, John Andrew and Jaycee Gresham. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Jessup of Parker, her brothers and sisters by marriage, Allen and Beverly Gresham of Elbert, Ann and Tony Long of Colorado Springs, nieces, nephews and a wealth of friends who were touched by her life.
Funeral services will be held at the Elbert Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 with Minister Roger Miller officiating. Burial will be at the Elbert Cemetery following the service.
Memorial Contributions can be made to honor Mrs. Gresham to Elbert Christian Church.
