Robert Benton Ziegler passed away on January 1, 2020. Bob was born on January 6, 1945 to Bill and Maude Ziegler. All of his homes were within a 1/4 mile of each other his whole life in Ruch, OR. He graduated from Medford High School in 1963 and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Baker on June 13, 1964 who passed away on June 4, 1999.
Bob did a lot of work in his teens on the ranches around the valley. After high school he went to work for Hydraulic Service & Supply for 7 months. Then he went to work for West Main Rental for 9 years, then he started getting paid from Medford Manufacturing. In 1974, Eric Root and Bob bought Medford Manufacturing and about 2 years later he bought Eric out and retired from his welding shop after 31 years in 2007.
Bob also volunteered with the Applegate Valley Fire Dept. for 36 years. He started out at the top as a battalion Chief and stepped down from that position in 2012, but he continued to volunteer as a OPS member until his retirement in 2016. In March of 2004, Bob was introduced by his parent-in-laws to Debbie Holden and they married on September 11, 2004.
Bob's hobby was farming. He enjoyed cutting firewood and his passion was being a passenger in a helicopter and even getting to fly it once!
Bob is survived his wife Debbie, his sons Sheldon (Evie) of Ruch, OR, John (Natalie) of Medford, OR, Timothy Holden (Jenny) of Grants Pass, OR and Danny Holden (Marlena) of Vancouver, WA. He also has 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary Ann, and their grandson Joseph Ziegler.
A memorial service will be held at AVFD Training Building, 1095 Upper Applegate Rd, Jacksonville, OR on Saturday January 18, 2020 at 2pm.
