He was born on January 9, 1945 to Amandio and Celia Ferreira Pereira in Poutena, Portugal. Mr. Pereira was a construction worker at Ecco for forty four years until his retirement in 2015. He was a member of Local #60 in Thornwood for forty four years. Mr. Pereira served in the Portuguese Military from 1967 to 1969. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Portuguese American Community Center for forty eight years. His many hobbies included soccer, hunting, golf and fishing. He was a fan of the N.Y. Yankees and the Sporting Team. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also played for the Yonkers Portuguese Club as a goal keeper for many years. On August 31, 1970, he married his loving wife, Maria Pereira in Poutena, Portugal. Mrs. Pereira survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Candida Devitt and Nancy Zeolla, two brothers, Lineu and Leu Pereira and two sisters, Esmerlda Simao and Maria DaSilva. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Robert J. and Nicholas Devitt and Jake and Matthew Zeolla. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Monday January 6th at 9:30am. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
