Harry was born January 25, 1925, in Jackson, MS, to Harry W. Nelson, Sr. and Alice Kuisagan Nelson. He grew up and was educated in Mississippi and later attended Lee College in Baytown. In 1945, he moved to Baytown and was married to Barbara Jean Lundy on April 7, 1947. He attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In 1984, after 40 years of service, Harry retired from Exxon Chemical Americas as a Training Supervisor. He was a member of the ExxonMobil Retiree Club of Baytown.
Harry was an avid outdoorsman and loved all things pertaining to nature. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, hunting, fishing, sports, reading, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. A generous and caring person, he touched the lives of many in a special way, always finding time to help his family, neighbors and friends. He will be truly missed by many and especially remembered for his devotion to his family.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Barbara; his parents; brothers Joe, George, Bill, Thomas, and Pat; and sisters Alice Davis and Louise Wilkes. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Rick Ramirez of Universal City; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Debbie Nelson of Baytown; and daughter and son-in-law Susan and Lester Sloan of Baytown. Also surviving are brother James Nelson of Jasper; sister-in-law, Joyce Stansbury of Port Neches; granddaughters Rayanne Peplinski and husband Lee of Louisville, KY; Jessica Campbell and husband Sean of Crosby; and Ellen Sloan and husband Steve Steinberg of Austin; and great-grandsons Luke and Colt Campbell of Crosby, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home 10:00 a. m., Saturday, February 1, 2020, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a. m. A private interment will be held at Sterling-White Cemetery in Highlands, TX.
