She moved to Dallas, Texas where she attended public school, and later earned an Associate Degree in Business Management from El Centro College. She joined Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age and remained active in various auxiliaries until her health began to fail.
Alice was united in marriage to Charles A. Mathis, Sr., who passed away in August 1993. She retired from the City of Dallas after working many years as a Building Manager.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, James Lee Taylor and Ocie B. Robinson; as well as her sister, Lavern Taylor, and one son, James Earl Taylor. Alice leaves to cherish her precious memories her children, Vivian Taylor, Charette Mathis-Green, and Charles A. Mathis, Jr.; grandchild, Christopher P. Green, II; brother, Joseph Taylor; sisters, Annie Rivers, Martha Cooper-Street, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and close friends.
A very special recognition to her caregivers Rosalyn Carter, Cora Rattler and the entire staff of Desoto Dialysis, as well as all of the medical professionals who attended to her healthcare.
