À Montréal, le 7 janvier 2020, est décédée Anne-Marie Forthomme Matz, née à Liège (Belgique), le 20 août 1935.
Travailleuse sociale en Belgique puis à Montréal (Centre-Sud), profondément impliquée au sein du 229e Groupe scout Notre-Dame-des-Neiges et de la Communauté chrétienne St-Albert-le-Grand, elle laisse dans le deuil ses fils Éric et Yves, sa belle-fille Rim Ben Achour et son petit-fils Thomas, ainsi que ses sœurs Claire (Paul Lacroix) et Madeleine (André Thiry), ses belles-sœurs Simonne et Christiane, ses neveux et nièces, sa cousine Alice, ses amis.
La messe de funérailles aura lieu le samedi 18 janvier 2020 à 10h00 en l’église Saint-Albert-le-Grand, 2715 chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine à Montréal.

Anne-Marie est née le 20 août 1935 à Liège, en Belgique. Tout en étant devenue Montréalaise depuis 1963 (et une inconditionnelle de Côte-des-Neiges), elle est toujours restée aussi une vraie Liégeoise, sa ville de cœur. Son père, Joseph Matz, officier, était greffier à l’Auditorat militaire. Sa mère, Madeleine Trussart, dirigeait un magasin de tabac-cigare dans le quartier Sainte-Marguerite. Tous deux étaient fort impliqués dans la vie de leur quartier, des mouvements de jeunesse et de leur paroisse. C’est là qu’Anne-Marie (Annie comme elle est connue en Belgique) s’est mariée le 26 juillet 1962, partant quelques mois après pour le Québec, où naîtront ses deux fils, Éric et Yves.
Elle leur aura transmis autant que possible sa curiosité, son goût pour la musique, la lecture, le cinéma, les visites culturelles, son intégrité, sa générosité, sa conscience sociale, sa capacité à s’indigner et à se révolter face aux injustices et aux inégalités, son attention aux plus petits, son souci des autres, son dévouement pour les causes et les personnes qui lui étaient chères, son enthousiasme, sa détermination ...et parfois aussi son entêtement! Pour son petit-fils Thomas, né en Belgique en 2013, elle aura été une « Bonne-Maman », pleine d’amour et d’affection, suivant chaque étape de sa vie et n’oubliant aucune fête, aucun événement, malgré la distance. Un de ses plus grands regrets aura sûrement été de ne pas pouvoir le voir grandir un peu plus longtemps.
Toutes ces qualités, toutes ces valeurs, elle les a aussi vécues et portées au niveau professionnel, en tant que travailleuse sociale en Belgique d’abord (1958-1962), puis dans l’ébullition du Québec des années 1960, au sein du Service social du Bon-Conseil, devenu ensuite Agence de service social Centre-Sud. La défense des droits des plus démunis dans ce quartier de Montréal, la volonté constante de les écouter, de les impliquer et de travailler avec eux et pas seulement pour eux l’ont alors guidée dans son travail et dans ses actions militantes. Elle n’avait pas peur de dire ce qu’elle pensait et ce métier, ces luttes et ces revendications l'ont passionnée et lui ont tenu à cœur, jusqu'au bout, même bien après y avoir renoncé pour s'occuper de ses deux enfants.
Plus tard, elle s’est engagée au sein de la Communauté chrétienne Saint-Albert-le Grand, où elle s’est fait de précieux amis. Active dans la vie et les célébrations de la Communauté, elle était particulièrement impliquée (tout au long des années 1980) dans l’organisation des liturgies des enfants et des messes familiales, chaleureuses, bienveillantes et accueillantes. Parallèlement, elle fut aussi une membre active d’ATD Quart Monde (1982-1986).
De même, à partir de 1986 et pendant plus de 25 ans, elle s’est engagée au sein du 229e Groupe scout Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, au Comité des amis des Scouts et dans l’organisation du bazar annuel. Cet engagement lui aura apporté beaucoup de bonheur(s) et aussi, à nouveau, des amis très chers. Là encore, son enthousiasme, sa disponibilité, sa volonté de faire confiance aux jeunes et de « prendre leur parti » auront marqué plusieurs générations de scouts, d’animateurs, de bénévoles -qu’elle avait toujours à cœur de remercier et de mettre en valeur. C’est certainement dans l’organisation du bazar que son investissement était le plus connu. Nombreux sont ceux qui garderont ainsi en mémoire son énergie en faveur, entre autres, de « son » rayon des livres, dont elle s’assurait, année après année, qu’il affiche bien le meilleur résultat des ventes (!). Son goût des livres n’était pas une surprise puisqu’auparavant elle avait été bibliothécaire à l’Université de Montréal (1963-1965) et qu’elle avait aussi été responsable de la bibliothèque de l’école primaire Notre-Dame-des-Neiges (1976-1985).
En 1991-1992, elle travaillera également à Entraide puis au Centre des Aînés de CDN, deux organismes communautaires actifs auprès des personnes âgées du quartier.
Certes, elle regrettait la vie et les fêtes au sein d’une grande famille, qu’elle avait tant appréciée autour d’elle quand elle habitait encore en Belgique avec ses frères Pierre et Jean, ses sœurs Claire et Madeleine et leurs cousins. Et elle regrettait aussi les chocolats, les gaufres, le boudin blanc, les terrasses du Carré, la foire d’octobre à Liège, la Mer du Nord, … Mais on peut dire d’une certaine façon qu’elle s’était recréée des nouvelles familles au Québec, des « familles » qui lui étaient très chères : en service social, à Saint-Albert et aux scouts. Le grand sourire qui illuminait alors si souvent son visage et qu’on retrouve sur tant de photos en est, pour toujours, le meilleur des témoignages.
