July 28, 1932 - January 7, 2020
Gladys Lewis Kessler, daughter of Ray Crawford and Mary Emma (Hamp) Lewis, was born July 28, 1932, in Richmond, Utah. She married Maurice Kessler on July 1, 1954. Maurice followed an Air Force career , resulting in he and Gladys living in several countries throughout the world. Gladys and Maurice had three children: Mike was born in San Francisco, CA; Christy was born at Johnson A.F.B., Japan; Cindy was born in Kenitra, Morocco.
Gladys was a registered nurse and was working at Ft. Lyon Veterans Hospital in Bent County at the time of her retirement. After her retirement, Gladys moved back to Colorado Springs.
Gladys enjoyed many hobbies and joined several classes at the senior center; two of her favorites were folk dancing and the use of the scroll saw. She became proficient at both and some of her scroll work will be displayed at her memorial. Gladys also loved to garden. She grew several vegetables but by far the most important were her tomatoes. They thrived and were enjoyed by all.
Gladys always wanted to do for herself. She was adamant about retaining the maximum independence she could, and was very successful at remaining active and self-reliant to the end.
Gladys was habitual in doing the crossword puzzles every morning, going to lunches with her friends, and attending weekly card parties. All this in addition to her gardening and home maintenance. She was invariably cheerful and supportive of family and friends. A nursing career was ideal for her, as she was one of the most loving and caring people many of us ever knew. All her children feel they won the lottery as far as a mom goes.
She will be deeply missed by friends and family.
A memorial will be held at 10:00 AM, January 16, 2020 at Swan Law Funeral & Cremation , 501 N. Cascade Avenue. A reception will follow at 11:00 AM.
