Lounette was born in 1935 in Mooresboro to the late Max and Belle Fraser Whitaker. She moved to Charlotte in 1953, and shortly afterward, married her lifelong friend from down the street. She pursued a career in customer service at Homelite/John Deere for more than 20 years while raising four children. Throughout her life, Lounette was a devoted member of her church, including Hillcrest Baptist, First Baptist of Charlotte, and First Baptist of Stanley. She spent time volunteering as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, kitchen volunteer, and nursery worker. Throughout her life, she was an avid contributor to many charities. She loved to play canasta with friends and read.
Lounette was a master cook, gardener, shopper, and seamstress. Her cooking always brought her family together. She could make any food taste divine, from just a simple sandwich to homemade biscuits with chicken gravy to beef stew. She filled many stomachs as well as hearts with her cooking. Lounette spent years patiently cultivating a yard full of hearty vegetables as well as beautiful flowers. This was mirrored in the years she spent helping her children and grandchildren to grow through hours of homework, reading, and her favorite subject: spelling. Lounette loved to shop and made it a pastime to find the best bargains. She made sure her family was never in need and also made sure to have fun and save money while doing it. If Belk gave out a lifetime shopper award, she has definitely earned it. Finally, Lounette was an amazing seamstress, able to stitch anything needed, from just mending a pair of pants to creating elaborate dresses and Barbie clothes. Her love was woven into all of our hearts and will forever be a special patch on the souls of her family and friends.
