In Loving memory of Bill Wilde who passed away on January 11, 2020 at the age of 96 years. Bill was born August 7, 1923 the youngest of 14 children in Odessa Saskatchewan. Bill enlisted in the Regina Rifle Regiment at the age of 16 years old and 4 of his oldest brothers soon followed him into wartime service and all 5 brothers all returned home.
The A Company of the Regina Rifles was part of the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade who landed at Juno Beach. This D-Day action marked the end of Bill’s battlefield experience it was another six long months in the hospital before returning home to Regina in December of 1944.
Bill headed to Vancouver, received his discharge and then upgraded and studied and earned a degree as a Certified General Accountant and secured a permanent position with Revenue Canada as an income tax auditor. After 33 years of employment he retired in Kelowna. He met Rita King and they were happily married in 1996. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife and family along with nieces and nephews and all who knew him. At Bill’s request there will be no service.
