CORTLANDT MANOR – Marie Emmilene Lann Hodgkinson of Cortlandt Manor, New York passed away on January 18, 2020. The youngest of six children, she was born in Axtell, Kansas on March 23, 1922 to Frank and Hilma (Olson) Lann. Marie grew up on the family farm, and much of her young life was lived during the Great Depression. She attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas and transferred to the University of Minnesota to pursue a degree in nursing, which she received in 1945. Marie worked for 10 years as a public health nurse in Kansas and Poughkeepsie, New York before marrying Leonard C. Hodgkinson, a teacher at Hendrick Hudson High School, in Coeymans, New York on July 23, 1955. She resided for many years in Buchanan, New York, where she and Len raised four children. In their later years they wintered in Jensen Beach, Florida, which Marie continued to enjoy after Len’s passing in 1990. In 2001, Marie moved to Jefferson Village in Yorktown Heights, New York, and spent her final years in Yorktown Assisted Living Residence, formerly the Seabury, in Cortlandt Manor. Always a person of faith, Marie grew up attending Salem Lutheran Church in Axtell, Kansas. She joined Trinity-Boscobel United Methodist Church in 1955 and was active as a member well into her nineties. She lived her life seeing the good in other people, and her greatest joy was the time she spent with her immediate and extended family. Marie is survived by her children, Leonard C. Hodgkinson, Jr, (Judith), Frank W. Hodgkinson (Kathryn), Martha Hodgkinson Swift (David) and Lois Hodgkinson Hines (David), and her grandchildren Brian (Megan), Peter and Kristin Hodgkinson, Michael Swift, and Madeleine, Leah and Rebecca Marie Hines. She was predeceased by her husband, parents and siblings. Visitation will take place at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, NY on Friday, January 24, from 3-7 PM. A funeral service will be held the following day at 10 AM at Trinity-Boscobel United Methodist Church, 275 Church St., Buchanan, NY. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Trinity-Boscobel UMC.
