The morning of January 23, 2020, Ethel Louise Graham accepted the invitation from our Father which art in heaven to live eternally with loved ones that have passed before us. Ethel was born April 8, 1926 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Arthur L. and Augusta Davis. She received her education ascending through the Boston Massachusetts Public School System.
On September 27, 1952, Kenneth Evelyne Graham would take Ethel’s hand and forge a matrimonial bond that would be held for 57 years. After planting roots in Washington, D.C., Kenneth and Ethel would welcome a loving daughter, Lauren Graham Clark. They became proud grandparents of Derrick Hughes Jr. (Ashley Hughes), Melissa Clark, and eventually, Ethel was blessed with great grandchildren, Calvin and Camryn Hughes. She was affectionately known as, “Mama” by her grandchildren.
In 1961, Ethel retired as an Accounting Clerk from Bolling Air Force Base, now known as Joint Base Anacostia-Bowling. She then became a faithful and longtime member of Union Wesley AME Zion Church until she was physically unable. At Union Wesley AME Zion, Ethel’s creativity and passions were shared through various volunteer roles, including the Share Program and she served as a founding member of the Historic Club. Ethel graciously shared her love for baking by making her signature lemon meringue and apple pies for many church events. Her hobbies and acquired talents included calligraphy, leather designs, knitting, crochet and collecting crystal figurines. She was blessed with a green thumb, which resulted in exquisite flower beds and gardens.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Augustus Davis, husband, Kenneth E. Graham, brother, Arthur Davis, sister, Aurie Gay, and son-in-law, John T. Clark. She will be greatly missed and remembered by her daughter, Lauren G. Clark, grandson, Derrick Hughes Jr., granddaughter, Melissa A. Clark, granddaughter-in-law, Ashley Hughes, great grandchildren, Calvin and Camryn Hughes, nieces, Lois Void and Corrine Davis, nephew, Marvin Davis, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, Maryland 20715. Viewing beginning at 11AM followed by the funeral service at 1PM. All are welcome to internment at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, Maryland 20722 with Repast at Robert E Evans Funeral Home.
