Ruth Olive McCurdy, 89, passed away on February 1, 2020. She was born on July 16, 1930 in Braggs, OK to William Henry and Olive May (Pryor) Jones. Ruth grew up with a big family, as she was one of 14 children. She attended high school in Byers, OK, and was an all-star basketball player. Ruth worked as a teller at Gibson’s, and then went to work at Fred Jones Lincoln Mercury as a bookkeeper, where she worked until retirement.
In 1945, she met Melvin McCurdy; their first date was at the soda fountain “Drug Store” in Byers, OK. They dated for three years, and got married on July 24, 1948. Together they had two daughters, Linda and Donna, and raised their family in Del City, OK.
Ruth took pride in how she kept her home, and her skills in cooking. She loved to sew, was a great seamstress, and enjoyed working in her yard. She was not only a great homemaker, but a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sibling, and friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents, William and Olive; and 11 siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Hendrickson (husband Rick) and Donna Cosper (husband David); grandchildren, Rob Satterlee (wife Apryl), Brian Satterlee (wife Serafima) and Chad Cosper (wife Melissa); great-grandchildren, Stephanie, TJ, Braeden, Eva, and Brian V.; along with other family and friends.
