In 1978, Jim was introduced to the love of his life, Sherri; and charming enough, they were actually introduced by Sherri’s own brother, Russ. Just after dating for three short months, Jim and Sherri were married for forty blissful years. They went on to raise two girls, Jill and Jennifer. The ‘Best Dad’ Award could arguably be given to Jim the moment his girls were born. From their vacations, life skills, outdoor adventures, it never mattered what the task was; Jim was all in.
Jim and Sherri moved to Yukon, OK, in 1992, where Jim became a true staple in his community. Jim never met a stranger in his life because of his kindness, compassion and commitment to always making others laugh. His over the top personality will be missed by all the lives he touched.
Jim was an officer of the Geary Police Department, Cashion Police Department, Yukon Police Department, and then the Arcadia Police Department. Jim was also Vice President of the STARR Program. His biggest achievements in life include the Merit of Valor from the Geary Police Department, Top Cop of Yukon Police Department and being a former NHRH driver/owner. However, his greatest achievement of all was his family and friends.
When Jim wasn’t working, you could find him hunting, tinkering in his shop, spending time with his family, friends, and of course his dogs. Jim was an avid dog-lover at a young age and there was never any discrimination on what breed of dog, he simply loved them all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Richter Mighton and mother, Norma Jean (Stout) Mighton.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sherri Leigh Mighton; daughters, Jill Croom and husband, Sean of Yukon, OK and Jennifer Mighton, of Yukon, OK; brother, Don Mighton and wife, Trisha, of Providence, RI; sisters, Cathe Riggs and husband, Bud, of Mannford, OK, Cindy Henderson and husband, Russell, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Donna Wilmoth and husband, Joel, of Midwest City, OK. Jim also leaves behind five grandchildren, Alyssa, Meylyn, Weston, Wyatt, and Finn, to cherish his memory.
A memorial service in honor of Jim will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 620 N. Cemetery Rd., Yukon, OK 73099. Per Jim’s wishes, casual attire is encouraged.
