John Rotondaro, 103, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 63 years of the late Frances (Cianci) Rotondaro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. John was born in San Basile, province of Calabria, Italy on December 5, 1916. He was the son of the late Leone and Maria Rosa (Frega) Rotondaro. John came to the United States with his father and brother Rocco at age 17. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was the owner and operator of his cherished Chicago Meat Market in Hartford for 42 years with his late brother, Rocco “Al” Rotondaro. He loved his vegetable garden and relaxing in his breezeway with his wife Frances. A devout Catholic, he was a longtime faithful communicant of the Church of the Incarnation and Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed family dinners and being surrounded by his loved ones.
John will be forever missed by his three children, Leo P. Rotondaro of Rocky Hill, Maria T. Maynard and husband Thomas of Wethersfield and John J. Rotondaro and wife Linda of Wethersfield; 12 adored grandchildren, Leo J. Rotondaro, and wife Carolyn of Clayton, NC, Sharon Hahn and husband Mark of Wethersfield, Michael Rotondaro and wife Roxanne of Tolland, Mark Rotondaro and wife Olivia of Jacksonville, FL, Peter Holowesko and wife Mikie of Canton, Lisa Lappe and husband Travis of Kensington, Noelle Holmes and husband Robert of Vienna, VA, Holly Maynard-Byron and husband Robert Byron of Wethersfield, Lauren Putnam and husband Reid of Carmel, IN, Carrie Maisano and husband Tom of Easton, Andrew Rotondaro and wife Krisztina of Miami, FL and John D. Rotondaro of Wethersfield and 20 cherished great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, dear friends and former customers. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Rocco “Al” Rotondaro and his wife Josephine and Victorio Rotondaro and his wife Mariella; his sister, Marietta Groppa and her husband Chiccio and his daughter-in-law, Beverly Rotondaro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (February 11) at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford (Section 34). Family and friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
