Joseph Albert Buvid, 79, passed away on February 4, 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by the love of his family. Joseph was born in Pensacola, Florida and grew up in San Francisco, California. Joseph proudly served in the United States Air Force for more than twenty years and retired with a rank of Master Sergeant. During his service he was an aircraft mechanic and an electronic communication and cryptographic equipment system specialist. While in the military he earned several awards and medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Small Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Good Conduct Medal (twice), and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Upon retiring from the US Air Force, Joseph attended and obtained his degree from Jones College in 1988. He went on to have a very successful sales career in the telecom industry, finally retiring from Converged Communications.
His life was well lived. Joseph valued his family and was a loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, watching football – his favorite teams were the San Francisco 49ers and Florida Gators, and sharing stories about his career in the military, especially during his post at the Pentagon and overseas assignments.
He is predeceased by his parents, Joe John Buvid and Katherine Jones Buvid. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Buvid of Jacksonville, FL; his three sons John Buvid (Dawn) of Hickory, NC, Michael Buvid (Rebecca) of Ozark, MO, and Joseph Buvid (Stacey) of Houston, TX and his step-daughter, Lisa Hansoty (Jatin) of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren Justin, Dalton, Logan, Cooper, Arya, Lucas, Jacen and Lily.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m. inside the funeral home.
HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERSIDE MEMORIAL PARK AND FUNERAL HOME, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, is serving the family.
