William (Bill) Dean Legge, age 74, passed away on February 4, 2020 at North Austin Medical Center from complications stemming from Leukemia. Bill was a long time resident of Austin and owned several liquor stores before joining H-E-B as a beer and wine steward in 2000.
Bill was born in Mount Pleasant, Michigan in 1945 and moved to Freer, Texas at the age of 12. He graduated from Freer High and then moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas where he subsequently graduated with a Bachelors degree in History. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned the respect of his men for his leadership and was honorably discharged in 1971. He earned several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He married Beth (Fiander) Legge in 1972 and welcomed his daughter Kimberly in 1976. Bill loved sports, especially horse racing and weekends would find him at the racetrack or watching sporting events on TV with his daughter.
Bill was preceded in death by his father William and mother Margaret. He is survived by his wife Beth, daughter Kimberly Legge, step son Michael McCown (Deborah), his four sisters Lynn Patten (Walter), Nan Cavin (Mike), Sue Webb (Tim), Krista Nix (Neal) and his three brothers in law George Lavas (Cindi), Tim Lavas (Debbie) and Michael Lavas and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved granddogs Bella and Harlie.
The family would like to thank the personnel at Texas Oncology, especially Dr. Shubhada Shrikhande and advanced practice provider Shuba Srinivasan, as well as his nurses and techs on Four East at North Austin Medical Center and the outstanding nurses who cared for him in the ICU.
