Richard was born June 20, 1938 in Lansing, MI to Edward and Ida (Clark) Menke.
Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue, along with four children Tina “Cris” Menke, Rick (Amy) Menke, Vicki (Shawn) Bishop and Mike (Renee) Menke, his brother and sisters and many loving grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Richard loved his family and everything he did was focused selflessly on that love. He proudly worked at Michigan State University and retired after 35 years of service. In his early years, Richard was a U.S. Marine where he was selected as the Marine of the Year by the Detroit Free Press in 1966. He spent his free time vacationing with his family at the cabin in Harrison, Michigan or pulling a trailer to the U.S. national parks. When not vacationing, he loved watching his children and grandchildren in a variety of school and other activities. He also enjoyed working in his home machine shop, working in his yard, or spending the winters in Florida. Richard was always there to help relatives and friends with yard and household projects. He was extremely handy and possessed nearly every tool ever invented.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:30 pm on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Family Life Wesleyan Church, 3270 Rowley Rd, Williamston, MI 48895. A dinner will be hosted by the church immediately after the service.
